Wireless Network Information

Wireless access is currently available in the PI wings, conference rooms within the wings, and the Suddath Seminar Room. In order to use the wireless network, a number of things are required:

  1. A wireless network adapter. If you have a Windows-based laptop, the unit is known to work best is the Lucent Orinoco Gold Card. Other cards may work, but could provide degraded signal strength and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) may not support them.
  2. Knowing your current prism ID and password. The authentication is based off the prism system.
  3. Knowing that the network name is GTwireless
  4. Knowing the GT encryption string (actual hex). Contact Diego Remolina for this information.

Here is a link to the OIT FAQ on the GT LAWN:

Once you have the card installed, network name set to GTwireless, encryption HEX set to the number provided to you by Patrick, and know your prism ID and password, you are ready to use the network. The first time you try to access a web page, the wireless system will force you to an authentication Web page where you have to supply your prism ID and password. Once authenticated, you will be given access to the network and can continue using it as if you were on a regular wired GT network. If you have any questions please contact Diego Remolina.
