IBB Biotechnology Education Toolboxes (BETs)
A sure BET for enhancing science education in your classroom

The Institute for Bioengineering & Bioscience (IBB) has served as a bridge between Georgia Tech and the Atlanta community for many years. Now, with the support of DeKalb County School System and Georgia Bio, we introduce our latest endeavor, the Biotechnology Education Toolboxes (BETs) which are available to local area teachers through our reservation system.

IBB built these toolboxes as a symbol of our continued commitment in improving K-12 education and providing teachers with state-of-the-art curriculum content to introduce students to the techniques relevant to cutting edge biotechnology research in the areas of cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, diabetes, sickle cell anemia and traumatic brain injury.

Mission of BETs: To improve K-12 Georgia Performance Standards through biotechnology education and spark enthusiasm towards science and engineering subjects by introducing basic medical research applications through the integration of science, engineering and medicine.

About the Program IBB's Biotechnology Education Toolboxes offer Atlanta area teachers the opportunity to share cutting edge techniques through hands-on laboratory experiences with students in their classroom, giving students a unique chance to experience an authentic, problem-solving approaches to learning. Our Biotechnology Education Toolboxes can be used in any K-12 classroom and taught either as individual lessons to supplement classroom circulumn or as a one-week comprehensive biotechnology camp.

Goals of the Biotechnology Education Toolboxes:
  1. Introduce middle & high school students to biotechnology research
  2. Connect science & engineering to everyday life experiences
  3. Augment classroom curriculum to enhance Georgia Performance Standards scores
  4. Promote active involvement in problem solving through problem-based learning
  5. Encourage further interest in biotechnology and research
